Who is Ross Daniels?
Ross Daniels has lived in The Gap for over 20 years, and has four children aged from 15 to 23. He was a Lecturer at the Queensland University of Technology for 20 years, and before that a social worker for 12 years. Ross met his wife Sharon while they were both social workers. Ross has served on the Board of many community and welfare organisations, including four years as International Chairperson of Amnesty International. He was, until recently, a member of the Council of the Queensland University of Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree, a Bachelor of Economics degree, and a Masters degree in Social Planning and Development, all from the University of Queensland. Ross is a keen campaigner for human rights around the world; he is a frequent speaker on this topic at seminars and conferences, and has been actively involved in a range of human rights groups, including Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation, and the Human Rights and Peace Society Nepal. He has also been President of the Queensland Council of Social Services. Ross opposed the Iraq war from the start, and has consequently been involved in the Iraq Solidarity Group, as well as groups advocating a peaceful, two-state, solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Ross is frequently called on as a commentator on human rights, refugee policy, welfare services, labour rights, and globalisation issues. He has a strong interest in current science and technology debates including the application of information and communication technologies in teaching and learning.
